Historical Mansion Museum

The Historical Mansion Museum is located on Leyn Baan Street within the historic fort of Galle, Sri Lanka. This old Dutch mansion has been beautifully restored and now serves as a museum. Here’s what you need to know:

  • The museum houses a diverse collection of historic artifacts, including colonial artworks, sculptures, jewelry, antique typewriters, and early versions of cameras.
  • You’ll find an impressive collection of VOC china and ceramic ware, as well as other miscellaneous items from bygone eras.
  • The museum’s owner, Abdul Gaffar, is a long-time resident of Galle, making this one of the largest privately owned artifact collections in Sri Lanka.
  • Entrance to the museum is free, and you can also witness live craft demonstrations, such as gem cutting and beeralu lace embroidery.
  • The museum is open daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM12.
